Purpose

To manage the administration and coordination of the Valuation Team to ensure data integrity across STANLIB systems & reporting for use by regulators, trustees, front office, and other key stakeholders; thereby ensuring the fair treatment.

Minimum Experience

3 - 5 years experience in a similar environment, of which 1 - 2 years at junior management level

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Finance Economics and Accounting

Process

  • Accountable for maintaining quality, service and outputs related to a work area, ensuring compliance with set policy, procedures and standards.
  • Proactively identify operational problems, determine cause and effect, select and implement the best solution to solve problems based on previous experience and understanding of the context.
  • Plan for and organise multiple work activities for team execution by assigning priorities against the set framework in light of the specific situational context.
  • Operational risk management - ensure effective incident management process as well as proactive identification and mitigation of risks for the team.
  • Productivity and efficiency - ensure effective monitoring, reporting, and ongoing improvements in the utilization of production resources.
  • Review the operating platform to ensure that it is operating according to the ASISA standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure that adequate risk control measures are in place for Valuations and updated on the Risk Register.
  • Ensure approved valuation methods are applied consistently across STANLIB
  • Maintaining all data integrity procedures and process documentation in a timely manner.
  • Overseeing valuations from Third Party Fund Administrators.
  • Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly valuations that are derived from valuation models set out in accordance with valuation policies.
  • Design and implement controls to ensure daily valuations for 15H00 and 24H00 are accurate
  • Continuously review and streamline the department’s processes to create a more efficient service to clients.
  • Continuously redesign and maintain a process to ensure that the team addresses ad hoc queries from clients in a professional, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Report to the Valuation Committee on any changes or issues that may arise with respect to the valuation of assets held in STANLIB portfolios.
  • Consult affected teams and develop new valuation methodologies and processes to address identified valuation risks,
  • Ensure Quarterly Valuation Committee meetings occur, and the Valuation Policy is reviewed annually.
  • Ensure the valuation policy is implemented throughout STANLIB and report any findings or exceptions to the Valuation Committee
  • Upskill and cross skill Data and Valuation staff members on approved new valuation methodologies
  • Maintain transparent communication with clients and ensure that their needs are met whilst following the guidelines and procedures set out by the Senior Manager of Data and Valuation.
  • Report to the Senior Manager of Data and Valuation on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Co-deliver on Regulation 28 requirements as per processes together with the Acting Manager in Data.
  • Have a working relationship with the Manager in Data to ensure staff cross and multi-skilling on all tasks of Data and Valuation.
  • Ensure monthly and other reporting requirements for Institutional Operations are met

  • Manages to ensure service excellence in support of Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles to build positive relationships and creates opportunities for exceptional service delivery.

Finance

  • Compile a budget aligned to the operational or area specific delivery of plans; monitor and report on variances and make sure that planned objectives are reported, escalating any deviations.

Learning and Growth

  • Schedule, allocate and effectively manage human resources within own area of responsibility in line with specified and specific constraints or parameters.
  • Manage the Valuation team as well as interact with other teams that impact daily portfolio valuations.
  • Skills development and training - ensure adequate resourcing and ongoing improvement in terms of skills;

  • Implement and utilise risk, governance and compliance policies and processes effectively, to identify and manage risk exposure.
