Purpose

To provide advice and support in the area of specialisation and take responsibility for communication initiatives from the strategic plan to ensuring timeous and effective delivery through the execution of predefined objectives as per agreed SOPs.

Minimum Experience

2 - 3 years experience in a similar environment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Finance Economics and Accounting

Additional Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree within business, communication, marketing, finance, investment management or related field.
B.Com Hons. Finance/Accounting/Econometrics experience in an asset management environment would be advantageous.

Process

  • Accountable for the execution of specialised work including the improvement of quality, standards and outputs within defined work routines and operating procedures.
  • Proactively solves problems, determines root-cause and applies solutions in line with guidelines and providing the necessary information to solve problems related to area of specialisation.
  • Plan for own task execution and advises on improvements related to area of specialisation.
  • Create and maintain instrument static and ensure the applied valuation is accurate and consistent with a similar instrument.
  • Validate data being received from external vendors.
  • Identify, review, and troubleshoot for exceptions identified in instrument static data and valuation.
  • Perform data quality and integrity functions in the trading and accounting system, thus contributing to accurate compliance reporting and accurate reporting to clients.
  • The primary investment classes used are equity, fixed interest, derivatives, unit trusts, money markets, and cash.
  • Test systems if they can support new security types.
  • Identify gaps invalidations of investment valuations and quantify exposure.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review systems and processes within the team and make recommendations on effectiveness and efficiency levels by automating processes and implementing continuous improvements.
  • Review work and/or systems for improvements collaboratively with the team and understand the impact of these improvements.
  • Perform daily checks to ascertain the reliability of instrument data used in portfolio construction..
  • Create and maintain instrument static data timeously.
  • Respond to queries from stakeholders.
  • Provide insight into instrument valuation trends for stakeholders and external clients.
  • Support the various operational business units in dealing with valuation queries.
  • Research or develop analytical tools to address issues such as pricing and valuations.
  • Contribute significantly to Quarterly Valuation Committee meetings.
  • Maintain regularly the Valuation Policies, especially on onboarding new instrument categories.
  • Perform UAT testing on new instrument types/categories to ensure systems can support the new instrument type.

  • Ensure own understanding and adherence to customer service delivery and Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles to provide specialist support and guidance.

  • Adhere to specified standards, policies and procedures to prevent potential losses/wastage related to the area of specialisation.

  • Contribute positively to own area-specific knowledge improvement associated with area of specialisation.

  • Comply to set governance and compliance procedures and processes related to an area of work and continuously identify, rectify and escalate risks where necessary.
