Senior Specialist: Digital Frontend Product Owner

To provide specialist advice and support in the planning, managing and monitoring the implementation of the Agile capability activities and processes in order to deliver on approved operational plans in an effective and efficient manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Information Technology and Computer Sciences

Additional Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant Commerce degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Investment Management, IT or Business Management.
  • Higher grade maths (or equivalent) passed with a B average.

Minimum Experience

  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar environment, of which 1-2 years in a junior management level.
  • Ideally 5 years in roles within Linked Investments Service Providers or investment platforms, Asset manager or a Financial Adviser business.
  • Experience in delivering exceptional digital customer service in a complex e-commerce business delivering transactional websites and apps.
  • Experience in solving complex problems for customers (internal or external).
  • Experience in working in successful teams and working collaboratively across departmental teams.
  • Experience at working in a fast paced, proactive and delivery focused environments.
  • Experienced at implementing and managing change

Key Responsibilities

  • Product owner for the transactional websites and all digital front-end tools which create the user interface provided to clients, advisers, and discretionary investment managers.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining an engaging and simple user experience.
  • Ensure that the user experience meets any Group policy, or industry guidelines and principles regarding best practice digital design.
  • Vendor management to key IT vendors providing the digital experience. E.g., web development agency, data provider, illustration engine provider.
  • Responsible for working with digital content manager and proposition team to ensure all content is up to date, compliant and clear.
  • Triage web issues and document impact to advisers/clients, as well as drive resolution
  • Responsible for working with Group IT team to ensure system security is always maintained.

  • Testing new digital journeys and functionality with advisers and clients.
  • Providing new ideas and requirements for enhancing the digital experience.
  • Maintaining the business rules and digital principles of the business.


  • An in depth understanding of providing solutions and experiences which delights financial advisers.
  • Sound knowledge of best practice in digital UX/UI design.
  • Understanding of design for different digital devices e.g., mobile responsive design.
  • Understanding of .Net development.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodology.
  • A clear understanding of how an adviser’s business works.
  • A clear understanding of the competitive landscape for our platform.
  • An understanding of investment and life products (to subject matter expert level) in order to talk about investments confidently.
  • An understanding of financial services regulation as it relates to investment platform providers.
  • A strong understanding of change management processes.

  • Apply models and techniques which enable tracking, reporting and monitoring of business related information.

  • Drive the effective implementation of IT governance and information security performance and compliance measurement/s.
  • Manage, plan and coordinate activities associated with the identification, prioritisation and resolution of reported problems.
  • Drive capability enhancements to perform on-going monitoring and ad hoc investigations to answer questions from the business that supports decision making and prioritisation
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Agile capability including Agile governance tools, methods, artefacts, templates and methodologies.
  • Manage and control the requirements, automation and communications management within area of accountability.
  • Drives the vision and end-to-end view for the capabilities that are to be built and maintained.
  • Serves as a functional or user needs expert for the capability requirements.
  • Ensure that capability quality management is aligned with requirements.
  • Accountable for the improvement of quality, service and work outputs, continuously recommending improvements.
  • Plan for the organisation of work outputs and process improvement activities in light of a specific situational context related to the area of specialisation.
  • Proactively identify area of specialisation related problems, determine cause and effect and recommend the best option to implement corrective action based on previous experience.


  • Maintain and build relationships for purposes of expectation management, knowledge sharing and integration.
  • Provide specialist expertise and advice to internal/external customers, that builds strong relationships and creates a favourable impression aligned to Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles.


  • Adhere to financial controls, governance and compliance policies and processes throughout an area of specialisation, contributing to cost efficiency.
