Senior Specialist: IT Change and Release

To provide specialist advice & support in the development & implementation of change and release activities, enabling the tailoring and adaptation of computer systems that meet business needs.

Minimum Experience

3 - 5 years experience in a similar environment, of which 1 -2 years at a junior specialist level

Additional Minimum Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role in a financial services or investment company
  • Experience of managing concurrent delivery of change to multiple environments
  • Experience of IT Service Management tools (e.g., Remedy, ServiceNow, JIRA Service Desk)
  • Experience of Version Control Tools (e.g., SourceTree, Git)
  • Experience of Automation of Software Build and Deployment
  • Experience in a Financial Adviser firm or Investment Platform business.
  • Experience in delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Experience in solving complex problems for customers (internal or external).
  • Experience in building successful relationships and working collaboratively across departmental teams.
  • Experience at working in a Knowledge Required: fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Information Technology and Computer Sciences

Additional Minimum Qualifications

  • Project Management or Scrum master qualifications
  • Relevant Commerce degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Investment Management or Business Management.
  • ITIL/COBIT certification

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead role to provide environment release and change management to ensure thorough and consistent processes across Production and Non-Production environments, liaising with external vendors as well as test teams, development groups and IT OPS team and business users.
  • Ownership of the delivery channels for programme and production with excellent attention to detail.
  • Deployment tracking of multiple vendor software components to provide clear visibility of which state each environment is in.
  • Maintain deployment schedule to feed into programme project work and define testing capabilities with the Test teams.
  • Create clear and engaging business communication regarding the code released, risk/impact to business, including downtime and new functionality.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Platform change is deployed consistently and accurately, underpinning the Platform Testing function by ensuring Platform Environment availability and integrity.


Additional Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with suppliers, IT Ops, Configuration and Change Management to ensure change detail is complete and recorded against each environment
  • Use of Jira and Confluence toolset to track and report on change records and processes
  • Distribute the change and release schedules and pipelines within agreed timeframes
  • Regular and accurate exception reporting on critical, failed, and unauthorized changes
  • Ensure that Change and Release Management policies are adhered to and report noncompliance
  • Ensure processes, procedures, and runbooks for Release and Change Management activities are correct and up to date


  • A deep understanding of investment and life products (to subject matter expert level) in order to talk about investments confidently.
  • An understanding of financial services regulation as it relates to investment platform providers.
  • An in depth understanding of the trading and payment cycle of a Platform business.
  • An in depth understanding of providing solutions and experiences which delights financial advisers.
  • A clear understanding of how an adviser’s business works.
  • A clear understanding of the competitive landscape for our platform.

  • Identify, analyse and understand business requirements in order to support the development and improvement of organisational IT systems.
  • Comprehensively test solution to ensure delivery according to identified requirements and document changes for recording and governance purposes.
  • Identify, diagnose and recommend improvements and provide specialist advice and support; ensuring that solutions are appropriate and effective.
  • Advise on and ensure the effective installation, layout and maintenance of network components in an area of technical specialisation.
  • Implement changes and manage space within the physical work environment to ensure that it is optimally utilised and complies with set standards.
  • Accountable for the improvement of quality, service and work outputs, continuously recommending improvements.
  • Plan for the organisation of work outputs and process improvement activities in light of a specific situational context related to the area of specialisation.
  • Proactively identify area of specialisation related problems, determine cause and effect and recommend the best option to implement corrective action based on previous experience.


  • Provide sound consulting services and recommendations based on customer and client needs, current information and trends analyses.
  • Provide specialist expertise and advice to internal/external customers, that builds strong relationships and creates a favourable impression aligned to Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles.


  • Adhere to financial controls, governance and compliance policies and processes throughout an area of specialisation, contributing to cost efficiency.
