Purpose

To provide specialist advice and support in area of specialisation enabling the provision of sound legal consultation services, with a primary focus on wealth and investment business (LISP and Life insurance)

Minimum Experience

3 - 5 years experience in a similar environment, of which 1 -2 years at a junior specialist level

Additional Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Law

Key Responsibilities

  • Vetting the various communication documents relating to products that are sent out to policyholders/clients
  • vetting all marketing and product related communications that are circulated to the public and the various distribution channels
  • Provide advise on the rights, responsibilities, disclosures and available options related to products
  • Drafting and vetting various legal contracts and all client documentation
  • Assist with legal functions relating to retail products and retirement fund governance
  • Keeping abreast of legislative developments
  • Reviewing, interpreting and implementing relevant legislation in collaboration with the Compliance Team
  • Legal research on pertinent issues that impact the business
  • Technical legal support and advise to LISP client services team and to financial advisers on legal and tax aspects of products and services
  • Legal support to the management board of the Stanlib retirement funds
  • Providing legal opinions and advise to internal and external stakeholders
  • Legal input regarding operational business processes

Additional Key Responsibilities

  • Meet tactical and operational needs by identifying, diagnosing and/or addressing product-related problems in own discipline;
  • Provide advice to business on various legal and technical matters in line with the legal framework, applicable legislation and best practice standards;
  • Vetting of policy/ client documents of new products that are being developed, as well as changes made to existing/legacy products;
  • Attending to general legal queries and providing general legal and technical advice and opinions;
  • Identify and communicate current and anticipated legal issues or risks;
  • Deliver exceptional legal service that exceeds customers’ expectations through proactive, innovative and appropriate legal solutions;
  • Work collaboratively across the Liberty Group to provide excellent and effective legal advice;
  • Contribute towards a TCF service excellence culture, which builds positive relationships and provides opportunity for feedback and exceptional service;
  • Working closely with the product development teams, internal marketing teams, compliance and tax teams across the various business areas for product related matters;
  • Working closely with the Legal Dispute Resolution team to rectify risks that have been identified for product related matters by the said team during the litigation/dispute resolution process;

  • Good letter writing and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to effectively manage working relationships with team members as well as internal and external clients
